Since I don't cook much anymore and rarley take pictures...

Photo from www.thepioneerwomancooks.com

I will share a recipe I want to try and may get to by Christmas and if I do, I will definitely take pictures and share.

Pioneer Woman posted about yummy dark chocolate truffles with sea salt. That is two people who have posted about the awesomeness of sea salt (Her and her). I guess, I need to invest in some.

I have always wanted to make truffles because a) they are so delicious, b) they are so expensive and c) they are so beautiful and I think they would make grand Christmas neighbor gifts.

Does anyone else have a great, simple truffle recipe? Please share.

Sorry, I don't have a recipe for truffles, but I do use sea salt and it is the best, so much better than regular. I want to thank you for suggesting I join a running group--I did and it's great to have cheerleaders now!

This is seriously the easiest truffle ever... if it can even be considered a truffle. The girl who gave me the recipe calls them "trailer trash truffles" but we usually just call them Oreo Truffles, or my kids call them Oreo balls.

I made truffles one year. It's easier than you may think. The hardest part was shaping them and dipping them. I've never used sea salt before, though.:)
First you melt chocolate chips in a sauce pan add some heavy cream and a little bit of corn syrup. (I can't remember quantities), I'll have to get back to you on that.:) Then shape those into balls on wax paper, then you melt some more chocolate in a double-boiler for dipping. It's really that easy...you can then dip them in cocoa powder or nuts or powdered sugar, whatever you want (just do it before the chocolate dries so it sticks):) Have fun! They really are super easy, just time consuming because of all the dipping.

Sara was telling me there's a faux-made truffle recipe using ready-made frosting, but I'm not sure where you could find it. (Or if it's worth finding?) Good luck!

I'll have to try the truffles. They seem to be a favorite for a lot of people.

As for the persimmons, I have never had one before. These are the fuyu variety. Look it up on the internet to see the best way to ripen, prepare and eat them. It is very different for the different types!

I love your enthusiasm until I got overwhelmed with the canning. Now I am looking forward to trying new ideas with the produce I am accustomed to and trying new stuff again.

One lady told me that the Mexican gray squash is really good when it is mixed with diced tomatoes, green peppers, onion, corn and I think some garlic. By itself it isn't very flavorful. I will try it tomorrow!

From now on, I will start looking up ideas for what is on the list as soon as it comes out and post it on my sad little food blog that night. I haven't had time to fix it since trying to get fancy last week. I actually cried, now time to get busy fixing. I am helping with yet another wedding and will be so glad to have it behind us. Instead of a dress from hell, it was the canopy . . . will post all that tomorrow . . . after a nap! Oops, maybe I shouldn't put four letter words on other people's blogs . . my bad?!?!?! I will try to put persimmon ideas on tomorrow evening as well.
